2009 was the 12th Boro Day/INAA Service Award Ceremony

COMMUNIQUE OF THE ALL-IJAW CONFERENCE HELD AT THE SHERATON AIRPORT HOTEL, NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, USA FROM MAY 29TH TO MAY 31ST , 2009, UNDER THE AEGIS OF THE IJAW NATIONAL ALLIANCE OF THE AMERICAS (INAA) DURING ITS 13TH ANNUAL “BORO DAY” SUMMIT  AND “SERVICE & DEVOTION” AWARD CEREMONY

Ijaws from Europe, Canada, America and Nigeria, met under the aegis of the Ijaw National Alliance of the America for the 13th annual “Boro Day” observance. The Ijaws discussed salient issues in the Nigerian Polity .

·       The premeditated invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom and its attendant “collateral” damages;

·       The unprecedented and massive displacement of innocent and defenseless fellow Nigerians;

·        The resolution of the House of Representative in support of the genocidal invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom;

·       We also reviewed the  irresponsible and outrageous utterance by Ibn N’Allah, a member  of the Federal House of Representatives;

·       The delay in releasing a white paper on the Niger Delta Technical Committee Report and the continuing militancy in the Niger Delta ;

·       The inaction of the responsible authorities in addressing the environmental problems in the Niger Delta.

The meeting resolved as follows:

  • That we condemn in very strong terms, the unprovoked invasion of the Gbaramatu Kingdom,  Odi, Abonema and other Ijaw communities of the Niger Delta;
  • The meeting regretted the unwarranted and avoidable loss of civilian and military lives, and properties;
  • That the Federal government stop immediately, this genocide on the Ijaw community of the Niger Delta by resettling the “collateral” damages;
  • That while we condemn Ibn N’Allah about his statement  to exterminate 20 million Ijaws, we are not surprised that our fears were, however, confirmed that he was speaking for the North by the disposition of the Arewa Consultative Forum;
  • Furthermore, we believe that the military invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom and other Ijaw towns and villages is part of the campaign started long ago. This campaign is part of the agenda to further disenfranchise the Ijaw, and undermine the Vice President.  Otherwise how does one explain the fact that the invasion took place while the Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was away on official Federal government duty in Sweden;
  • We unequivocally and unreservedly support Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the role he is playing as a faithful Vice President to the Federal government.

The conference resolved that for peace to reign in the Niger Delta there must be demilitarization of the Niger Delta, a political solution, and justice and equity to the issues canvassed.

Finally we call on the United States, European Union and other International bodies that believe in justice and equity to prevail upon the Nigerian government to stop this genocide on the Ijaw communities of the Niger Delta.
